I remember my first video game console, NES, in some games, you couldn't save, had 5 lives, and a horde of monsters realistic or fantacy, and would slam the controller on the ground, but still try to strive to reach that final boss, just cause I thought I was HARDCORE...but not really.

Every once in a while, their comes a game where it challenges not just someones wites (stupid puzzle mini games, damn you FMVs) or if its a cenimatic experience, and alot like watching a movie and a game..(Uncharted, 1 and 2) but at the same time hold your hand every step of the way. Demon's Souls is the contrary, and I mean that by saying you will die in the totorial.

the Devolopers for this game is Atlus, the same people who are well known for the Shin Megami Tensei Series, Persona Series, and Trauma Center series. Now whats kinda cool about this is that Atlus mainly just make J-rpgs, and this game sorta takes place at a western medival kinda vibe, and its nice to see some animations of places and monsters.

Story

The story is set in the medieval Europe-inspired fictional kingdom of Boletaria, Where a Fog is consuming everything in the land, the demons are able to consume everything in this fog, both the land and the human souls that come across, any soldier that has entered the fog has never returned, so since your the LAST HOPE, you should walk in the fog as well, I guess that makes sense. Beyond that I dont want to spoil the story but here is the introduction video you would see if you were to start a new game in Demon's Souls.

Gameplay

Let me expand on that a little further. When you do bring up the Start Button menu, the one that gives you access to inventory, equipment and the status of both yourself and the world's light/dark tendencies, your character can only run around; all your other actions are used to guide the menu navigation. Those light/dark tendencies? They determine how tough enemies are in a level and dying can cause the world to shift to dark, meaning the game can get harder if you die too much.

Are you getting a sense of the kind of stacked odds that are against you? This is not a game for those that milk their save game states or reset the console when something goes wrong. In fact, Demon's Souls almost constantly auto-saves. Oh, and perhaps the most amusingly brutal part of the Demon's Souls experience? If you die, you lose all that cash/experience (unless you can run all the way back through the level to where you died and reclaim your soul with all those enemies you killed off now alive and thirsty for fresh blood).

There's no bank, no second chances, no way to put off the inevitable. You will die in this game. When in this soulless form, you'll be permanently stripped of a chunk of your life meter. You will lose all of your cash, and you will hate that every once in a while it's because you got pushed (okay, you accidentally rolled) off a cliff. But you'll keep coming back either because you want to explore the level more detailed or try a different path, it's a learning experience you may actually enjoy.

Why would you play this game?! because its HARDCORE!!

Online

Online experience is based on the single player playthru, you are online constantly in this game(unless you dont have internet), other players can access your world and try to hunt you down for your money(souls) and their are sequences that my character can join other person's worlds to help take down a boss, cause doing it on your own is close to impossible. you can see ghosts of other player's actions as you walk by certain areas, and even watch the last 10 seconds of someone death so that you dont follow a similar fate! You and other players can leave messages for anyone else on the ground, simple messages only like "Beware of Trap" or "Use Fire on Dangerous Foe" little neat nick nacks.

Hope you enjoyed this review, send comments on what you think

Dont like using numbers on my reviews but I give this game a Definate Buy! (of coarse thats if your into medival majical stuff, and leveling up and stuff)
